Escape on @ doesn't work properly when content is typed #1699

Problematic behavior
When I type @ Something after it and then ESC only the @ is kept.
Expected behavior/code
The text I type after @ should be kept.
Steps to Reproduce
- Do this...
- Then this...
- And then the bug happens!
